Introducing Prestons' Ginger Beer

We were very excited to have Prestons’ Ginger Beer join us for the first time in the 2019 LJAWF Wine & Beer Garden. If you’re not familiar with ginger beer it is a non-alcoholic beverage that’s robust, spicy and has an aromatic flavor. It’s made with a blend of ginger, water and sugar that’s fermented with yeast, then carbonated and bottled. The fermentation sets it apart and gives it the distinctively ginger taste. You can sip ginger beer as a soft drink, use it to make a sparkling mocktail or enjoy in a classic Moscow mule.

 

Prestons’ has a great story in that owner and operator Harry Preston uses his grandmother’s 100-year old South African ginger beer recipe. Growing up, it was  everyone’s favorite. Fast forward, Preston moves to San Diego, dusts off the original recipe, and starts introducing it to family and friends and finds that they’re all patiently and eagerly waiting to sip down the refreshing beverage! 

 

In 2014, Preston started his business part time using organic and all natural ingredients and the same fermenting methods that his grandmother did. He experiments with brewing flavored ginger beers, such as prickly pear and hibiscus, blood orange mint, honey lavender, holiday spice and lime basil. The fun flavors shift throughout the seasons and in these festive months, they’ve added a cinnamon vanilla and clove version. 

 

You can find Prestons’ for sale at local stores or you can visit them at their tasting room located at 8680 Miralani Drive, Suite 126, San Diego, CA 92126. They’re open to the public on Thursday and Friday from 3:00-7:00pm and Saturday from 2:00-8:00pm. Saturday’s they also offer warm meat pies baked by Perkey’s. CDC guidelines are closely followed and you can check out their website for the most current information.
