Sculpture
Emphasizing natural surrealism sculptor Marv Poulson creates original, one-of-a-kind stone sculptures in the contemporary abstract tradition. With his work, he seeks the sublime while engaging emotional response through conceptual interpretation inspired in wave, wind, water and time. Marv uses DIRECT SCULPTURAL TECHNIQUES with native stone including Yule Marble, Zebra Marble, Picasso Marble, Limestone, Honeycomb Calcite, Columbian Basin Basalt, and Mogollon Basalt for sometimes abstract, whimsical or kinetic solutions in a timeless medium. The uniqueness of each piece of stone provides an opportune beginning for Marv to become progressively intimate with the material. Marv allows his imagination and the stone to merge in the crucible of time and contemplation. Through this collaboration, the sculpture emerges. Marv’s work rises both from inspiration and intention. Marv strives to create a stimulating challenge, compelling the viewer to engage the eye, mind, emotion, and imagination.
